Bengaluru, Dec 12: In relation to the incident in Karnataka’s Belagavi district where a woman was stripped naked, paraded and assaulted after her son eloped with a girl from the same village, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said on Tuesday that action has been taken and that seven people have been arrested thus far.

Parameshwara commented on the incident, saying, “It is unfortunate that it happened. One boy, about 24 years old, fell in love with another girl from the same village and same community. They had run away together and in retaliation, the girl’s parents destroyed the boy’s house and forcefully took away the mother of the boy, removed her clothes and tied her up to an electric pole.”

“Immediately, our police went and rescued (the woman). She was brought to the hospital. We have registered a case and we have already arrested about seven people. Further investigation is going on. We are also trying to find where this boy and the girl have run away,” he added.

After her son eloped with a girl, a 42-year-old woman in the Belagavi district was stripped naked, paraded and beaten yesterday after being tied to an electric pole.

BJP to protest

Speaking about the Belagavi incident, BJP MLA Bharath Shetty stated that the party is organizing a large-scale protest in Belagavi tomorrow against the policies of the state government and the status of law and order.

“Yes, we have planned to call a larger protest in Belagavi. Protest is required, people need to know what’s happening, and people need to know the attitude of this government and what is their attitude towards the people. This incident shows the failure of law and order in the state,” Bharath Shetty stated.

He went on to slam the state’s Congress administration, claiming that everything in the state is in disarray and that there are numerous issues, including the power ministry, student scholarship distribution, and social justice.

CM denounces incident

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah earlier on Monday expressed his disappointment with the occurrence in a social media post.

“Very cruel. The entire civilization is now dizzy as a result of this. Such horrible deeds will not be allowed by our country under any circumstances. In relation to the case, numerous individuals have already been taken into custody. It is our whole duty to guarantee that the guilty parties receive harsh punishment in order to provide justice to the harmed family,” Karnataka CM wrote on X.
