Khelo Jharkhand concludes: JEPC announces training camps for different teams

Ranchi, Nov 13: The Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) today announced dates for training camps of different events for the 67th national championship of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) after the completion of Khelo Jharkhand.

Khelo Jharkhand state programme officer Dheersen Soreng today said that training camps for  Kho-Kho will kick start from tomorrow (November 14) followed by  Badminton, Tennis ( November 20), Athletics (November 22) and  Volleyball  (December 1).

“Camps for football and  Yoga players have already started from November 8. The camp for other events would be finalized after the announcement of the national championship date,” said Dheersen Soreng.

The JEPC official said with the completion of the Swimming event, Khelo Jharkhand 2023-24 concluded.

This time, record 35,000 schools participated in the school-level championship of the Khelo Jharkhand programme while 40 lakh players participated in games at the Divisional level competition.

“Over 15,000 boy and girl players of all 24 districts of the state participated in  29 events in under-14, under-17 and under-19 categories. In Kabbadi, Kho- Kho and  Athletics more than 2000 players participated in the state championship. On the basis of their performance, the state team was selected in each event for the national championship. Now 21 days special training camp is being organized to hone their skills”, said  Soreng.

The JEPC official said that the state’s under-14 judo team left for Jammu on Sunday to participate in the SGFI championship scheduled from November 15 to 19. The Yoga team of the state will leave for Tripura on November 19.

So far two events of the national championship under-14, under-17 wrestling and  under-19 boys football have been held. In wrestling which was held in Vidisha (Madhya Pradesh) the Jharkhand team won two silver medals while in the football event held in Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) the Jharkhand team won all the three league matches and lost in the knockout stage (quarterfinal).

Education Secretary K Ravi Kumar and JEPC director Kiran Kumari Pasi congratulated the organizers for holding Khelo Jharkhand successfully.

In the closing ceremony of the swimming championship, Swimming Association president Barkha Sinha, senior vice-president  Shailendra Kumar Tiwari and general secretary  Upendra Tiwari gave away trophies to medal winners.
