Chhindwara, May 29: A man, believed to be suffering from mental health issues, allegedly killed eight members of his joint family with an axe in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district on Wednesday. Following the gruesome incident, he took his own life by hanging himself, police stated.
The event occurred around 2:30 am in Bodal Kachhar village, with the motive behind it still unclear, as per reports.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Manish Khatri informed reporters that the man, identified as 26-year-old Dinesh Sariyam, was “mentally disturbed” and got married recently on May 21.
He reportedly used an axe to kill his wife, mother, sister, brother, his brother’s wife, and three young children. Additionally, he attacked another nephew, who fortunately managed to escape the scene, SP Khatri stated.

Khatri stated that following an early morning alarm raised by a woman, the police rushed to the spot to search for the man. Eventually, he was found hanging from a tree.
The injured person was receiving care at a private hospital in Chhindwara, while the corpses were sent for an autopsy.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav conveyed his condolences regarding the incident and instructed Minister Sampatia Uikey to promptly visit the remaining family members of the deceased in Chhindwara.
