Dhanbad, August 10: Former all-rounder Manish Wardhan has been appointed chairman of Jharkhand’s Senior Selection Committee, becoming only the second person from Dhanbad to hold the position in 33 years after Robin Mukherjee.
Historic Moment for Dhanbad Cricket
The appointment was made during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) held in Ranchi. Alongside Wardhan’s appointment, Dhanbad’s Bala Shankar Jha and Manoj Kumar Singh were elected as members of the Women’s Selection Committee.

This marks the first time since 1991–92 that a cricketer from Dhanbad has chaired the senior selection committee. In unified Bihar, Robin Mukherjee had previously held the role before Jharkhand’s formation.

Career Highlights and Contributions
Manish Wardhan, a former captain of the Jharkhand Ranji Trophy team, enjoyed a 13-year career, playing 45 first-class matches and scoring nearly 3,000 runs, including five centuries and 15 half-centuries. His highest score, an impressive 179 against Saurashtra, is widely regarded as one of the finest innings by a Jharkhand batsman.
Wardhan made his first-class debut in 2004 against Saurashtra at Rajkot and played his final Ranji match against Tripura in Dhanbad. He captained the Jharkhand Ranji team in 2017, earning respect for his leadership and performance.

Following his appointment, Dhanbad Cricket Association president Manoj Kumar, secretary Binay Singh, and senior officials extended their congratulations to Wardhan, Jha, and Singh for bringing recognition to Dhanbad cricket.
