Dhanbad, Nov 10: A five-day Leadership and Management Development Programme (MDP) for elected representatives and functionaries of Panchayati Raj Institutions commenced on Monday at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.

The programme is being jointly organized by IIT (ISM) in collaboration with the Department of Panchayati Raj (DoPR), Government of Jharkhand. Representatives from 27 Panchayati Raj bodies across various districts of the state are participating in the training.

Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT (ISM), inaugurated the programme as the chief guest. In his address, he commended the Ministry of Panchayati Raj for conceptualizing such capacity-building initiatives.

He said the training would equip Panchayati Raj functionaries with modern administrative and leadership tools, helping them enhance governance at the grassroots level.

Prof. Kumar further noted that similar programmes organized earlier by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj had proven instrumental in promoting leadership, digital literacy, and participatory rural development nationwide.

Prof. Keka Ojha, Dean of the Continuing Education Programme at IIT (ISM), highlighted the transformative impact of such initiatives.

“This programme will not only sharpen the administrative skills of the participants but also connect them with IIT (ISM)’s legacy of excellence and innovation,” she said.
