A K SAHAY

Dhanbad, Jan. 7: Both Maithon and Topchanchi here attract migratory birds, but the pattern is different

In Maithon, only the Common pochard and a few other ducks are seen. But in Topchachi, many types of ducks arrive.

LITTLE WHISTLING DUCK- SHOT IN BALIAPUR

Red-crested pochard, Common pochard, Ruddy shelduck and the Bar-headed goose are coming yearly. The last one is one of the highest-flying ducks in the world and flies over Mount Everest. This bird seems to be very fond of India as even in bad years,

Apart from Topchachi and Maithon, there are some places like Baliapur where we see some migratory birds. And I discovered it. My famous flight photograph of Ruddy Shelduck happened there only.

RED CRESTED POCHARD – BEAUTY AND ELEGANCE

I have been visiting Topchachi and Maithon dam for about 20 years, more so in winter for migratory birds.

(A K Sahay is a well-known bird photographer, author and has written six books.  His next book is on birds in Dhanbad.)
