Daltonganj, Aug. 25: Interstate thieves are striking districts in Jharkhand 23 interstate thieves have been caught in two districts of Jharkhand, Palamu and Garhwa, in the past one week or so.

Palamu’s tally of arrests is 22 while Garhwa has 1. Interestingly, out of 23 arrested so far, woman thieves count for 11 and all these 11 women were caught and jailed in Palamu who were of the Pardi gang.

The interstate gang is of two states, MP and Bihar. The MP gang of thieves is the Pardi gang of the Guna district in that state.

The Bihar gang is of Korha under the Katihar district. Both the gangs are extremely notorious and are like ‘born criminals’.

In the latest crackdown against interstate thieves, Garhwa police caught and jailed a member of the notorious band of thieves called Korha gang on Saturday.

Korha is a police station in Katihar

Garhwa SP Deepak Kr Pandey told this correspondent, “The Korha gang is of Katihar district in Bihar. It is extremely notorious for theft and snatching. Korha is a police station in Katihar district in Bihar.”

The Korha gang of thieves lives at Naya Tola Jorabganj under the Korha police station limits in Bihar, added the SP.

“Garhwa police team caught a member of the Korha gang identified as Deepak Yadav, 35,” said the SP.

Police recovered 23,000 rupees in cash and two bikes.

A luxury watch, Fitron, and a cell phone were also recovered by the police, added the SP.

He said three other Korha gang thieves, Ameet, Lakhan and Anand accomplices of Deepak managed to give a slip to the police.

Korha thieves have fake Aadhar cards

“Korha thieves have fake Aadhar cards. Our catch Deepak had also a fake Aadhar card. Police recovered it too. With the fake Aadhar cards the thieves of the gang obtain dubious sim cards,” added the SP.

“The Korha gang is after unsuspecting withdrawal of cash from the banks. Its members troll them right from the bank when a withdrawal steps out of the bank with cash and on any unguarded moment these people either snatch the cash or break open the dikki of the bike and decamp with the cash so withdrawn from the banks,” explained the SP.

Garhwa had witnessed a spate of such crimes in recent times.

The Garhwa SP had set up an SIT to contain and nab the Korha gang members.

“Our police took out the images recorded in the CCTV cameras wherever CCTV cameras were available. The images were later passed on to police to be on the lookout for such faces of crime,” said the SP.

“Our police spotted a man resembling one of the images recorded in the CCTV camera. He was stopped and interrogated. The man broke down and confessed to being of the Korha gang,” he said.

“The man spilt all the beans like where this gang houses itself and what it does if it succeeds in laying hands on heavy cash.”

The gang lives temporarily near the railway station, bus stand etc.

“One thing that this gang does first on getting heavy cash, is that it at once changes the location and temporarily settles down somewhere else,” the SP pointed out.

The dent although a singular one of the Korha gang is surer to keep its other members lie low for the moment in Garhwa. There is no guarantee as to when this gang will spring up.

Pandey said, “We are determined to contain and curb the Korha gang here.”
