Daltonganj, September 25: A murder accused who had been evading arrest for nearly two months was arrested while allegedly sleeping at his mother-in-law’s house in Kuru, around 125 km from the crime scene in Palamu’s Chainpur police station area.
Police arrested the accused, identified as Mobin Miyan, 22, during an operation in Kuru under Lohardaga police station limits on the intervening night of September 22 and 23, Chainpur police station officer-in-charge Lalji said.
Police caught him in second attempt
According to police, Miyan had been hiding at his mother-in-law’s house, where she works as a chowkidar in Kuru.
“He apparently believed he would be safe there because his mother-in-law is a government employee,” Lalji said.
The Chainpur police team made its second attempt to apprehend him on the intervening night of September 22 and 23. Police finally found him sleeping at around 3 am and arrested him without resistance.
Accused allegedly lived openly in Kuru
Police said Miyan had not attempted to conceal his identity or significantly change his appearance while staying in Kuru.
According to Lalji, people in the locality knew him as Mobin Miyan, which helped the police trace and arrest him.
“There was no resistance when our police caught him,” the officer said.
Police sources said members of the household were also aware of the accused’s presence and that sheltering a wanted murder accused could have led to legal complications.
Wanted in July 30 murder case
Miyan was wanted in connection with a murder and alleged harassment case registered at Chainpur police station on July 30, 2026.
According to police, a middle-aged man was allegedly stabbed to death in the incident, while a woman also sustained serious injuries.
As many as 16 people were named as accused in the case. With Miyan’s arrest, the number of accused arrested so far has risen to 11, police said.
The accused was subsequently forwarded to judicial custody, according to police.
