New Delhi, August 16: In order to demand justice for a female doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, doctors and medical students throughout India persisted in their protests on Friday.
CBI summons four doctors of RG Kar College
Sources reported that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Kolkata has called four doctors from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for questioning on Friday, in connection with the ongoing protests over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor.
Sources indicate that the CBI will question these PG trainees about the events that occurred on the night of the incident.
On August 9, a 31-year-old female trainee doctor was found with injuries in a seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. An autopsy later revealed that she had been raped before being murdered. The accused, Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, was arrested on August 10 and placed in 14-day police custody.

Protests in Delhi
Junior doctors from Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital, as well as RML Hospital in the national capital, staged a protest in response to the rape and murder of a woman resident doctor in Kolkata.
Protests in Amritsar
Concurrently in Punjab’s Amritsar, the Resident Doctors Association of Government Medical College, has announced that all non-essential and elective hospital services, including Out Patient Departments, Operating Theaters, and wards, will be suspended starting August 16 and will remain so until further notice. Here, the doctors have been holding demonstrations outside the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.
Protests in Kerala
A 24-hour strike in Kerala has been called by the Kerala Medical Postgraduates Association (KMPGA), the Student Unions of various medical colleges, the Dental PG Association, the House Surgeons Association, the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) resident doctor associations, and the Dental PG Association.
Inside the Nair Hospital, all undergraduate and graduate students studying medicine, dentistry, and paramedicine have been silently protesting for safe and secure conditions in government-run medical schools and hospitals. Services in the Outpatient Department are currently not available here.

Protests in Tamil Nadu and Siliguri
In Tamil Nadu’s Trichy, wearing black badges as a symbol of protest, doctors at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, have been participating in protests.
The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) has called a 12-hour general strike in Siliguri. The strike has caused significant disruptions to daily life in the city, with most shops remaining closed since 6 PM on Thursday.
