THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Chandigarh, March 12: The OBC leader and head of the Haryana BJP, Kurukshetra MP Nayab Singh Saini, will take over as chief minister of Haryana.

Today at 5:00 PM, he will take the oath of office.

The governor will now meet with the BJP and six independent MLAs who support them. The BJP has 41 MLAs in the 90-member Haryana Assembly. In addition, Gopal Kanda, an MLA of the Lokhit Party of Haryana, and five independent MLAs support it.

The day was characterized by widespread speculation about divisions within the governing BJP and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) coalition in Haryana, especially regarding negotiations over allocation of seats for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

14 ministers, including Khattar, and three JJP members, led by Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, made up the departing cabinet. Together, they all put forward their resignations.

Nayab Singh Saini became associated with the BJP in 1996, initially serving within the Haryana BJP’s organizational framework as a state general secretary until 2000.

He progressed within the party, assuming roles such as district general secretary of the BJP Youth Wing in Ambala in 2002, and later becoming the district president in 2005.

54-year-old Kurukshetra MP Saini, who won the Kurukshetra seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by a margin of more than 3.83 lakh votes over his closest opponent, Indian National Congress (INC) member Nirmal Singh, was named the Haryana BJP state president in October of last year.

Considered Manohar Lal Khattar’s confidante, Saini was initially elected as an MLA in 2014 and has since held ministerial positions.
