Dhanbad, April 11: NTPC Mining Limited (NML) signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TEXMiN Foundation, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, during the IInvenTiv 2026 R&D Fair, aiming to accelerate research, innovation, and technology development in the mining sector.

NML CEO Naveen Jain also participated in a high-level roundtable on “Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) to Scale-up Strategic Sectors,” alongside academicians, industry leaders, and policymakers. He stressed the need to enhance coal utilisation in downstream sectors such as gasification, noting that while indigenous technologies exist at the research stage, their commercial deployment remains limited.

He underlined the importance of stronger industry-academia collaboration to scale up such technologies and bring them into practical use.

Focus on innovation, training and startups

The MoU with TEXMiN Foundation will cover collaboration in research and innovation, technology development through TTRP, industry consultation, training and capacity building, startup support, and knowledge exchange.

The partnership is aimed at promoting scalable indigenous technologies, strengthening innovation ecosystems, and supporting sustainable mining practices, in line with India’s push for technological self-reliance.
