ONGC appoints Om Prakash Sinha as Director (Exploration)

New Delhi, July 15:  Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has appointed veteran technologist Om Prakash Sinha as its new Director (Exploration), marking a major step in reinforcing the company’s upstream strategy.

Bringing with him more than 30 years of experience in exploration and reservoir management, Mr. Sinha has served ONGC in several key technical and strategic capacities. An alumnus of the Indian School of Mines (now IIT-ISM), Dhanbad, he holds a degree in Petroleum Engineering and is known for his deep involvement in multiple high-impact ONGC initiatives.

Over Three Decades of Energy Sector Expertise

Mr. Sinha’s decorated career includes leading roles such as:

  • Head of the Institute of Reservoir Studies (IRS)
  • Sub-Surface Manager at ONGC’s Assam Asset
  • Key assignments at GEOPIC, IRS Ahmedabad, and Project ICE, New Delhi
  • Driving Technical Excellence and Operational Efficiency

Mr. Sinha’s leadership has consistently focused on improving ONGC’s operational frameworks. From deepwater project execution to reservoir optimization, he has contributed significantly to advancing ONGC’s technical edge. His work in streamlining sub-surface strategies and leading cross-disciplinary teams has positioned him as a forward-looking leader in exploration.

Strengthening ONGC’s Exploration Portfolio

As Director (Exploration), Mr. Sinha will guide ONGC’s upstream energy initiatives, overseeing major exploration projects, expanding resource basins, and supporting strategic alignment with India’s energy independence goals. His experience is expected to bolster the company’s exploration roadmap and deliver high-impact results across the board.
