Daltonganj, January 7: The Palamu district administration has stepped up preparations for the forthcoming civic body elections. A review meeting of all 13 civic body election cells was held on Tuesday under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Sameera S, who is also the District Election Officer (Municipality).

Five Civic Bodies in Palamu

There are five civic bodies in Palamu district — Medininagar Municipal Corporation, Nagar Parishad Bishrampur, and three Nagar Panchayats at Chhaterpur, Harihurganj and Hussainabad.

Medininagar Municipal Corporation has 35 wards, Bishrampur Nagar Parishad has 20 wards, while each of the three Nagar Panchayats — Chhaterpur, Harihurganj and Hussainabad — has 16 wards.

246 Polling Stations Identified

Speaking to The Jharkhand Story Network on Wednesday, DRDA Director Ratan Kumar Singh, who is the Nodal Officer of the Nirvachan Koshang and also the Deputy Election Officer (Municipality), shared details of the preparations.

“We have a total of 246 polling stations across all five civic bodies. Each polling party will consist of a four-member team,” said Ratan, who is popularly known by his first name.

Strong Room, Counting Centre Finalised

Deputy Commissioner Sameera S and Superintendent of Police Reeshma Ramesan have jointly inspected and verified the premises and buildings to be used as the strong room and counting centre.

“The same premises and buildings that were used during the 2024 Assembly elections will be used for the civic body elections as well,” Ratan said.

The GLA College premises in Daltonganj have been finalised for this purpose.

Vehicle Requirement Under Review

The vehicle cell has been directed to assess the number and type of vehicles required for the elections.

While Palamu has adequate availability of both small and large vehicles, a cautious approach is being adopted regarding their deployment.

According to the Deputy Election Officer (Municipality), buses will not be suitable, considering the location and accessibility of polling stations. Instead, four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles are being preferred over multi-wheel vehicles, as they are more convenient for transporting ballot boxes, ballot papers and election personnel.
