Daltonganj, September 12: In a major boost to police mobility and emergency response, 31 new patrol vehicles were rolled out for police stations and outposts across Palamu under the Chief Minister’s ‘Aap Ki Suraksha, Hamari Zimmedari’ programme.
The vehicles were flagged off by Palamu SP Kapil Chaudhary at a ceremony held at the Daltonganj police lines on Saturday.
New fleet aimed at faster police response
The new vehicles are expected to strengthen policing in both urban and rural areas by improving connectivity between police personnel and people seeking assistance.
In a press note issued on the occasion, SP Kapil Chaudhary expressed hope that the new fleet would enhance the effectiveness of policing across the district.
“Our mobility will be faster. It will further reduce police response time and bring us closer to the caller in distress,” the SP said.
The initiative comes against the backdrop of the condition of many seized vehicles lying at police stations and outposts, several of which have deteriorated over the years and are no longer considered fit for regular use.
GPS, public address systems among key features
SDPO Sadar Rajesh Yadav said all 31 patrol vehicles have been equipped with GPS (Global Positioning System) to facilitate better tracking and deployment.
The vehicles also have public address (PA) systems and seating capacity for seven police personnel, according to police officials.
The vehicles have five-speed gearboxes and higher ground clearance, enabling them to negotiate difficult terrain and operate in rural and challenging areas, police sources said.
Focus on faster connectivity with people
Jharkhand had earlier introduced Shakti Mobile patrol vehicles with a focus on proactive safety and security of women, girls and children.
The latest initiative broadens the focus towards improving overall police mobility and ensuring quicker access to people in distress.
Police sources said the respective police stations and outposts will be responsible for managing fuel and other operational expenses related to the vehicles.
