Daltonganj, September 2: Government and non-government schools across Palamu will remain closed on September 3 in view of the forecast of heavy rainfall and the prevailing waterlogging in several areas.
Palamu Deputy Commissioner Dilip Pratap Singh Shekhawat has ordered the closure of all schools from KG to Class 12 for one day under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, District Education Officer Sandeep Kumar confirmed.
Heavy rain, waterlogging prompt precautionary move
The administration said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure following weather forecasts indicating heavy rain on September 3. Continuous rainfall over the past few days has already caused waterlogging on several school campuses, with rainwater reportedly entering classrooms at some locations.
Access roads to a number of schools have also become muddy and difficult to navigate, raising concerns over the safety of schoolchildren travelling to and from their institutions.
Teachers to report to schools
While students have been asked not to attend school on September 3, teachers and other staff will have to report to their respective campuses and carry out non-academic duties, according to the DC’s order.
The move is aimed at ensuring that essential administrative and other school-related work continues even as regular classes remain suspended.
School event also postponed
The closure order will also affect programmes scheduled at schools on September 3.
Dr Rahul Agrawal, associated with Birla Open Minds International School, told The Jharkhand Story Network that the school’s felicitation ceremony honouring “social architects”, scheduled for September 3, would stand postponed in view of the district administration’s order.
