Daltonganj, March 24: The Palamu police zone has stepped up preventive measures to maintain peace ahead of Ram Navami, with authorities issuing notices under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The drive is being carried out across three districts—Palamu, Latehar, and Garhwa—as part of efforts to ensure public order during the festival period.
Preventive Notices to Maintain Law and Order
Inspector General (IG) of Police, Palamu zone, Shailendra Kumar Sinha, said notices are being served to individuals asking them to explain why they should not be made to execute a peace bond.

He said such notices act as a deterrent and make recipients aware that the administration is closely monitoring their activities.
“These notices make it clear that any action disturbing peace or public tranquillity will invite legal consequences,” Sinha said.

Legal Process and Ground Implementation
Officials clarified that notices under Section 126 of BNSS are issued by a designated magistrate based on police inputs about possible threats to peace.
Sadar SDO Sulochana Meena said the notices are formally issued and then sent to local police stations for service.
Authorities indicated that notices are being served in physical form, as it has a stronger impact. It was also pointed out that courts have restricted the use of digital platforms like WhatsApp for serving such legal notices.
Focus on Peaceful Ram Navami Celebrations
The IG said that police teams across all three districts are actively working to ensure peaceful celebrations.
While most Ram Navami events will conclude by March 27, some areas like Balumath in Latehar will continue celebrations till March 28, and one location in Palamu till March 29.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring that festivities conclude without any disruption.
