Kangra, Sept 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a relief package of ₹1,500 crore for flood-affected Himachal Pradesh after conducting an aerial survey of the devastated regions. He assured that the Centre will stand firmly with the state, extending all possible support for recovery and rehabilitation.

Alongside the relief package, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) declared an advance release of the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi. Families of those who lost their lives will receive ₹2 lakh each, while the seriously injured will be given ₹50,000.

Reviewing the damage in Kangra, the PMO said reconstruction efforts will include rebuilding homes under the PM Awas Yojana, repairing highways, restoring schools, supporting farmers without power connections, and providing livestock kits. Damaged houses and schools will be geotagged to ensure timely aid delivery.

PMO also announced measures to boost water management, including the construction of recharge structures to harvest rainwater and raise groundwater levels. Inter-Ministerial Central Teams are already on the ground to assess losses, with further aid to be considered after their report.
