New Delhi, Dec 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed from New Delhi on Monday for a three-nation tour of Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman, aimed at strengthening India’s engagement with regions that share long-standing civilisational links and close bilateral ties with the country.

The visit opens in Jordan from December 15 to 16, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During his stay, Modi will hold comprehensive talks with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein to review the full spectrum of India–Jordan relations and exchange views on regional developments. He is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah.

From Jordan, the prime minister will proceed to Ethiopia for a two-day visit from December 16 to 17, his first to the African nation.

In Addis Ababa, Modi will address a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament, where he will reflect on India’s democratic journey, including the idea of India as the “Mother of Democracy,” and highlight the potential of the India–Ethiopia partnership for the Global South.

He will also hold detailed discussions with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and interact with members of the Indian diaspora.

The final leg of the tour will take Modi to Oman from December 17 to 18 at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, making it his second visit to the Gulf nation. The trip coincides with 70 years of diplomatic ties between India and Oman.

In Muscat, the prime minister will meet the Sultan to discuss ways to further strengthen the strategic partnership, with particular emphasis on commercial and economic cooperation. He will also address the Indian community in Oman, acknowledging its contribution to the country’s development and to bilateral relations.
