Ayodhya, Jan 22: The consecration of the new Ram Lalla idol took place at the Ayodhya temple on Monday, with millions of people watching the event on television in their homes and temples across the nation.

The historic Pran Pratishtha (consecration ritual) of Ram Lalla took place at the sanctum sanctorum of the Ayodhya temple on Monday during the Mool Muhurat, amid the chanting of hymns and Vedic mantras.

Chief Yajman of the temple trust, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, conducted the ceremonies and unveiled the exquisite gold-and-yellow Ram Lalla idol.

“The consecration of idol of Ram Lalla at Ayodhya is an extraordinary and emotional moment,” PM Modi said after the rituals.

The Prime Minister expressed that participating in this sacred program is a significant honour.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister entered the temple grounds carrying a silver umbrella over a folded red dupatta.

He took “sankalp” for the “pran pratishtha ceremony,” wearing a golden kurta with a cream dhoti and patka, and then proceeded to the sanctum sanctorum for the rites.

During the consecration ceremony, military helicopters scattered flower petals on the newly built Janmabhoomi temple.

Attendees at the event taking place in the temple’s sanctum sanctorum included UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, and Governor Anandiben Patel of Uttar Pradesh.

“The extraordinary moment of the consecration of Shri Ram Lalla’s life in Ayodhya Dham is going to leave everyone emotional. It is my great pleasure to be a part of this divine programme. Hail Siya Ram!” PM Modi tweeted.
