Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday targeted the Congress over its demand for a caste census in the country, asking whether they want to take away the rights of minorities, reports The Indian Express.
On Monday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had hailed the Bihar caste survey, saying that the country needs a caste-based census to give people their due rights as per their population.
Addressing a rally at Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh, Modi said: “Congress started a new chant yesterday. Their leader said rights should be proportional to population. I say, the biggest population is the poor. For me, poor people have the biggest population and my mission is their welfare.”
He added: “What must former PM Manmohan Singh be thinking right now; he used to say that the first right over India’s resources is of minorities, and that too Muslims. Now the Congress says that population will decide how much rights one has over resources. Does that mean they want to decrease the rights of minorities? Then whose rights will be first? Whose population is more? Congress must clarify this. Should Hindus take all rights? They want to divide Hindus and destroy our country.”
“They want to divide the poor. For 10 years, Modi made schemes to build self the confidence of the poor. The poor are the biggest caste and community. If the poor benefit, the whole country benefits,” he said.
