Churachandpur, Sept 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a fresh development push in Manipur by laying the foundation stone for projects exceeding ₹8,500 crore.

He also laid the groundwork for the Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) project and Working Women Hostels at nine locations across the state.

Earlier in Churachandpur, locals welcomed the Prime Minister with the traditional Zomie and Thadou Kuki shawls, while a young girl presented him with a hand-drawn portrait.

Later in the day, Modi reached Imphal, where he inaugurated projects worth over ₹1,200 crore.

These include key state infrastructure such as the Civil Secretariat, IT SEZ Building, and New Police Headquarters at Mantripukhri, as well as the Manipur Bhawans in Delhi and Kolkata.

The inauguration also extended to the Ima Markets, Manipur’s iconic women-run marketplaces, in four districts.

He acknowledged that the region has suffered under the shadow of violence but expressed confidence after meeting families living in relief camps, saying that a new dawn of hope and trust is emerging in Manipur. Stressing that peace is essential for development to take root, he underlined the government’s commitment to rebuilding lives.

Highlighting connectivity as a longstanding challenge for the border state, Modi said that since 2014, continuous efforts have been made to improve Manipur’s road infrastructure and link it more closely with the rest of the country.

The Prime Minister emphasized that India is on the verge of becoming the world’s third-largest economy and that decisions taken in Delhi now reach Manipur much faster than before. He pointed out that Manipur has benefited from national schemes such as housing for the poor, with nearly 60,000 houses already built, giving thousands of families dignity and security.
