Patna, Dec 2: Veteran BJP legislator Prem Kumar took charge as the new Speaker of the Bihar Assembly on Tuesday after being elected unanimously.
Pro-tem Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav announced that no other nomination had been filed for the post, leading the House to endorse Kumar’s name through a voice vote.

In keeping with legislative tradition, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Opposition Leader Tejashwi Yadav accompanied Prem Kumar to the Speaker’s Chair.

The senior BJP leader, who recently secured the Gaya Town seat for an unprecedented eighth consecutive term, now assumes one of the Assembly’s key constitutional roles.
