Araria, March 22: A gunfight broke out between the STF and criminals in the Narpatganj police station area of Bihar’s Araria district early Saturday. In the encounter, Chunnmun Jha, the prime accused in the Tanishq showroom robbery case in Arrah, was killed. Another criminal sustained a bullet injury in his leg but managed to escape from the spot.
STF Personnel and Civilians Injured
Four STF personnel were also injured in the encounter, including Narpatganj police station in-charge Kumar Vikas and STF personnel Mohammad Mushtaq and Shahabuddin.
Additionally, two local residents, Mehnaz Praveen and Azmun Khatun, also sustained injuries. Following the encounter, ASP Rampukar Singh, SP Anjani Kumar, and other police officials arrived at the scene.
STF Raid Leads to Deadly Encounter
According to reports, the police received information that Chunnmun Jha, the prime accused in the Tanishq showroom robbery case, was hiding in Narpatganj with his gang.
Acting on this tip-off, a team from Patna STF reached Araria. With the support of the local police, the STF conducted a raid near Thalha Canal. During the operation, the criminals opened fire.
The STF retaliated, and Chunnmun Jha was hit by three bullets, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
However, another criminal managed to escape from the scene, and the police have launched a search operation to apprehend him.
₹25 Crore Heist in Arrah
On March 10, armed criminals looted ₹25 crore from a Tanishq showroom in Bhojpur (Arrah). Around 10:15 AM on that day, seven criminals entered the showroom and carried out the heist. They held the salesmen and security guards at gunpoint, and upon resistance, they assaulted one of the salesman.
Police Chase and Arrests After the Robbery
After the robbery, the police launched a manhunt to arrest the criminals. On the same day, six suspects were spotted riding three motorcycles from Arrah-Babura towards Doriganj. When the police pursued them, the criminals opened fire. In response, the police retaliated.
Two of the criminals were shot in the legs and sustained injuries, following which they were arrested. The arrested individuals were identified as Vishal Gupta from Dighwara, Saran, and Kunal Kumar from Semra, Sonpur.
The police recovered two pistols, 10 cartridges, some stolen jewelry, and a motorcycle from them. However, the remaining criminals managed to escape.
