Jamshedpur, June 10: The misuse of the alarm chain on trains has become a growing issue, causing significant disruptions to railway operations across the country. When passengers pull the alarm chain without a valid reason, it leads to unscheduled halts, severely delaying not just the affected train but also the entire railway network along that route.

These unnecessary stops create a ripple effect that impacts the punctuality of subsequent trains, increasing delays and leading to overcrowded stations.

The consequences extend beyond just inconvenience for passengers; they also cause stress for the train crew and control staff, who are responsible for managing these disruptions and ensuring smooth operations.

In the past two months, incidents of alarm chain misuse have spiked in the Chakradharpur Railway Division.
According to official data, there were 68 reported cases of alarm chain pulling in April, followed by 56 cases in May. In response, authorities have made 63 arrests in April and 49 in May, with appropriate legal actions being taken to deter further incidents.

The alarm chain is a vital safety tool, intended solely for emergency situations. Its misuse is not only illegal but also jeopardizes the safety and comfort of fellow passengers. It is critical that passengers understand the gravity of their actions and refrain from pulling the alarm chain unless it is absolutely necessary.
A single act of negligence can lead to widespread delays and disruptions, affecting the daily travel experience of thousands of passengers.
