The post of VC has been vacant in BBMKU since October 13 when Raj Bhawan sacked Dr Sukhdeo Bhoi on corruption charges. Dr Bhoi had assumed the office on June 22, 2022, and was sacked on October  13, 2023.

Now, the Raj Bhawan has issued a notice for the appointment of VC.

Since there is no teacher in Jharkhand having 10 years experience as a professor, an out-of-state candidate is likely to be selected for the post (VC) of BBMKU. The post of Vice-Vhancellor in four other universities of Jharkhand including  VBU Hazaribagh, RU Ranchi, SKMU Dumka and KU Chaibasa has also been vacant for several months.

BBMKU Dhanbad was set up in 2017 and only two regular Vice-Chancellors were appointed. Dr Anjani Kumar Srivastava was the first regular VC of BBMKU and he completed his three-year tenure gracefully.

In November 2017 when BBMKU  was created as a new university, the then BIT Sindri director DK Singh was made acting  VC.  On June 1, 2018, Dr Anjani Srivastava was appointed as the first regular VC of BBMKU.

However, after his retirement on  August 31, 2021, first North Chhotanagpur Hazaribagh commissioner  Kamal John Lakra (September 21 to January 31 2022) and later on VBU Vice-Chancellor  Dr Mukul Deo Narayan (February 8 to June 21, 2022) were made acting VC of BBMKU.

Finally, on June 22, 2022, Dr Sukhdeo Bhoi was appointed as the second regular VC of BBMKU but he was sacked in merely 17 months.

In the meantime, the Raj Bhawan also sacked the Finance Advisor (FA), Proctor and CCDC of the university who were in active roles during Dr Sukhdeo Bhoi’s regime.
