Following a detailed survey of the accident-prone stretch on the Hata–Chaibasa highway, Rajnagar thana OC Vipul Kumar Ojha has sent a proposal to the Seraikela-Kharsawan district police suggesting the installation of CCTV cameras, street lamps, speed-breakers, rumble strips, and zebra crossings at strategic points on the road.

In the proposal, the OC recommended installing surveillance cameras at key locations so that criminal acts and road accident cases can be detected more easily, besides creating a sense of fear among antisocial elements.

Similarly, he suggested the need for speed-breakers and rumble strips at congested points so that the speed of vehicles can be controlled effectively.

The OC also proposed installing lamp posts from Kuju up to Chotanagpur College, mentioning that the lack of street lighting in this stretch is a major reason for road mishaps and criminal activities.

He identified 18 points for bus stoppages and 31 points for zebra crossings and speed-breakers. He also suggested putting up signboards at mishap-prone zones along the road.

Rajnagar is a transition route from iron ore-rich West Singhbhum to Jamshedpur and beyond, leading to round-the-clock movement of heavy vehicles. These vehicles often pass through the area at high speed, causing frequent fatal accidents.

A police official posted at Rajnagar thana said that OC Vipul Kumar Ojha has done his part sincerely to improve road safety on the accident-prone Hata–Chaibasa highway, but it remains to be seen how seriously the district police acts on the proposal.
