Ranchi, Dec 3: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) distributed sweaters, gloves and gift hampers to disabled children at Srijan Help NGO, Kumhar Toli, Pahadi Tola Ranchi on International Disabled Day on Tuesday.
The DLSA also conducted an awareness programme on the occasion following the directions of JHALSA Executive Chairman Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad.
JHALSA Under-Secretary Nirmal Kumar Bharti, DLSA Secretary Kamlesh Behera, PLV Vicky Chaudhary, Raja Verma and DALSA employees were present.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities
Addressing the programme, the JHALSA under-secretary said that since 1992, the United Nations has been celebrating International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 every year.
“The main purpose of celebrating this day is to celebrate the capabilities of the disabled, spread awareness among the people about the issues related to them and bring the disabled into the mainstream of society and protect their rights and empower them by registering them with all the welfare schemes brought by the administration, which is very important for the society,” he said.

The DLSA secretary said that every person in society should make an effort so that all the disabled can participate in every activity of society with full rights and can make their identity with other people based on their capabilities and specialities.
Behera also said that awareness programmes are organised for the disabled from time to time and after identifying the disabled.
“The DLSA continuously connects them with welfare schemes with the help of administration and also distributes equipment for the disabled among them, and this will be done in future also,” he added.
He also said that the disabled have the right to get proper education and employment.
“The main objective of celebrating International Disability Day is to bring the disabled into the mainstream of development by making the thinking of physically or mentally disabled people positive and by encouraging the participation and cooperation of all sections of the society along with them,” he added.
