Ranchi man gets 10 years in jail for rape after promising marriage

Ranchi, June 1: The court of Judicial Commissioner Diwakar Pandey today sentenced the accused Mukesh Lal Mahto to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 in a rape case. If the fine amount is not paid, then there will be an additional 10 months of rigorous imprisonment.

The case had been lodged in 2015 at the Kanke Police Station.

Mahto was accused of having physical relations with the victim for 6-7 years by luring her into marriage. Later, he refused to marry. When the girl refused, the accused forcibly had sexual relations with her.

During this period, she also got pregnant twice in the year 2012 and 2014. Mahto took her to Matri Chhaya Hospital, CMPDI and also got the foetus in her womb aborted. When the victim and her parents asked Mahto and his parents to marry her, they refused to marry her. The prosecution was successful in proving the charges levelled against the accused.

Advocate Sujay Dayal presented his case on behalf of Mahto, while Public Prosecutor Anil Kumar Singh argued on behalf of the prosecution.
