Ranchi, March 6: Ranchi is set to get a world-class library worth ₹65 crore by June 2026, an initiative spearheaded by Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth. The six-floor facility, currently under construction in Morabadi, will be one of the largest libraries in eastern India and will be able to accommodate 5,400 students simultaneously in three shifts.

The project is being funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions from Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and Coal India Limited. Of the total project cost, ₹35 crore has been contributed by CCL and ₹30 crore by Coal India Limited.

Sanjay Seth inspected the construction site on Friday and directed officials to install safety nets on each floor to ensure the safety of visitors, especially students.

Modern facilities for students and citizens

The six-storey library, being built across 13,000 square metres, will feature a range of modern facilities designed for students, researchers and residents.

The library will include:

  • Reading halls and e-library facilities on each floor
  • Dedicated discussion rooms for students
  • A reading area for young children
  • A study centre for senior citizens
  • A multipurpose hall and yoga centre
  • Cafeteria, pantry and open-air seating area
  • Locker rooms and ample parking for cars and bikes

Officials said the building will also be equipped with six elevators and a dedicated generator set to ensure uninterrupted services.

During the inspection, CCL CSR General Manager Siddharth Lal, District Education Officer Vinay Kumar, and officials from the Building Construction Department were present.

‘Dream for Ranchi taking shape’

Speaking after the inspection, Sanjay Seth said the library fulfils a vision he had set in 2020 to provide Ranchi with a world-class knowledge centre.

“I had resolved in 2020 to gift Ranchi a modern library. Today that dream is nearing completion. Politics for me is a medium to serve society, and this project is an example of that commitment,” Seth said.

He added that the proposal had received quick approval from the then Union Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi, while former CCL chairman P.M. Prasad also played an important role in facilitating the project.

According to Seth, the library will become a major learning hub for students preparing for competitive examinations and pursuing higher studies in Ranchi.

Major boost for students preparing for competitive exams

Once completed, the facility is expected to attract students from across Jharkhand and neighbouring states who come to Ranchi for studies.

Seth said the library would not only benefit students but also promote a culture of reading, research and community learning.

He added that new academic resources and subjects would be gradually introduced in the library to strengthen its role as a modern educational centre.

The minister also said the project aligns with the vision of “Developed India 2047” advocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasising education and knowledge infrastructure.
