THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK
Ranchi, April 8: Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has smashed its previous records by producing 87.5 million tonnes (MT) of coal in the financial year 2024–25—the highest in the company’s history. It also dispatched 85.9 MT, marking a significant milestone for the Jharkhand-headquartered public sector company.

With India’s energy demand surging, this performance puts CCL in a strong position to support the nation’s drive for energy independence under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Mining More, Polluting Less
CCL’s top-producing mines—Amrapali-Chandragupta, Barka Sayal, Magadh-Sanghamitra, Piparwar, North Karanpura, Rajrappa, and Rajhara—played key roles in achieving these numbers, but the company is equally focused on reducing its environmental footprint.

This year, CCL ramped up green efforts by carrying out large-scale afforestation, especially using the fast-growing Miyawaki technique in Rajrappa to create dense green zones in mining-affected areas.
In a big push for solar energy, CCL generated nearly 288 lakh units of solar power, cutting down over 20,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. With 25.25 MW of solar capacity already installed (including rooftop and ground-mounted plants), the company is now building a 5 MW solar project in Barka Sayal. Plans are also underway for a 150 MW project in Giridih by FY 2026–27. CCL aims to achieve net-zero electricity consumption by 2029–30.
Smarter Coal Logistics
To modernize coal dispatch, CCL is moving away from truck transport and switching to fully mechanized, closed-loop Coal Handling Plants (CHPs). This not only boosts efficiency but also slashes diesel use and pollution.
The North Urimari CHP is already operational, while CHPs at Karo, Konar, and KBP-Purnadih are under construction. These systems are part of CCL’s larger strategy to embrace tech-driven, eco-friendly mining logistics.
200-Bed Super Specialty Hospital Coming to Ranchi
In a major healthcare initiative, CCL is setting up a state-of-the-art 200-bed Super Specialty Hospital in Kanke, Ranchi. The facility will specialize in cardiology, pulmonology, and neurology, and will offer treatment at subsidized rates. The project is being developed in partnership with Babasaheb Ambedkar Vaidyakiya Pratishthan.
This move is part of CCL’s efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure in coal-rich regions of Jharkhand.
Empowering Communities, One Step at a Time
Beyond coal, CCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts have made a real difference on the ground. Its flagship education programs, ‘CCL ke Laal’ and ‘CCL ki Laadli’, provide free IIT coaching, schooling, and hostel facilities to talented students from marginalized communities. Currently, 80 students are enrolled.
CCL also runs the Jharkhand Sports Promotion Society with the state government, offering residential training in 11 sports. Many cadets have gone on to win national and international medals.

In the health sector, CCL has adopted all TB patients in aspirational districts like Chatra and Latehar. In collaboration with Sri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust, 500 children with heart conditions have received corrective surgery.
The company has set up Smart Classes and ICT labs in 193 government schools and trained over 1,200 youth in job-ready skills—900 of whom have already found employment. Nearly 2 lakh rural residents benefited from CCL’s health camps this year.
Under its women empowerment drive, CCL supported Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in setting up handloom units, mushroom farming operations, and garment production centers.
More Than Just a Mining Company
CCL’s record-breaking performance isn’t just about numbers—it’s about redefining what a mining company can achieve. With a focus on sustainability, community upliftment, and innovation, CCL is positioning itself as a key player in India’s energy and social development story.
“Energy security is our mission, but inclusive growth is our priority too,” said Nilendu Kumar Singh, CCL’s Chairman and Managing Director. “We’re grateful for the support of governments, our workers, and communities. Together, we’re powering progress.”
