Ranchi, May 6: The ED today recovered Rs 35.23 crore of cash stashed at a flat of household help of Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam’s Private Secretary Sanjiv Lal near a Shiva temple in Ranchi after it raided at least nine locations.

The cash was also recovered from other locations. Sanjiv Lal had rented/purchased a house in the name of his household staff where cash was recovered today.

The ED also raided the premises of two engineers-Vikas Kumar and Kuldeep Minj.

According to ED sources, Rs 35.23 crore was recovered from the house of Jahangir Alam who is said to be the household help of Sanjiv Lal, PS to Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam. Jahangir Alam is said to be close to the minister.

Besides, the ED also recovered a list of officers seeking prime posts at the recommendation of various Congress leaders and papers related to favouring the contractors of the minister’s choice in awarding contracts.

The agency also recovered several letters along with the bundles of notes that former Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh had written to the rural development secretary sharing the details of the probe report of the ED against the jailed chief engineer of the rural works department Virendra Ram. The ex-chief secretary had asked the rural development secretary to act on the ED report immediately.

Scam linked to Virendra Ram

The seized cash is said to be linked to the scam involving suspended chief engineer Virendra K. Ram, whom the ED arrested in February 2023 in a money laundering case.

The case is linked to the tender management and transfer posting in the rural development department where mafia engineers and the minister’s favourite contractors ruled the roost.
