This recovery took place following the directives of Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhvi Mishra and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) HP Janardhan, who visited the check post to ensure thorough vehicle inspections in light of the upcoming assembly elections.

Details of seizure

Maithon police station officer-in-charge Rajnish Kumar informed the media that ₹2.25 lakh was confiscated from a pickup van, while ₹2.92 lakh was recovered from a car at the interstate check post.

The owner of the pickup van, Amir Hassan Ansari, claimed to be a fish trader, stating he was on his way to Dhanbad from Chitranjan after selling his products.

In the afternoon, police recovered ₹2.92 lakh from a car at the Maithon Dam check post. The car owner, Somodeep Bhattacharya, explained that he was returning to Burdwan after collecting money in Bokaro and had stopped at Maithon Dam on his way back.

Police officials stated that the concerned authorities are currently investigating the documentation related to the transport of such significant amounts of cash.
