Amritsar, Dec 4: A bullet shot was fired at Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal while performing the duty of ‘sewadar’ outside the Golden Temple on Wednesday.
The attacker, Narain Singh Chaura, fired at Badal but missed the target as he was overpowered by bystanders.
Badal, who had arrived at Sri Harmandir Sahib to undergo a religious punishment imposed by the Sri Akal Takht Sahib, was unharmed.

The shooter, Narain Singh Chaura, was arrested by the police. Narayan had previously served a sentence in a Punjab jail.

According to sources, the attacker, Narain Singh Chaura, was a terrorist associated with Babbar Khalsa International. He reportedly went to Pakistan in 1984 and was involved in smuggling weapons and explosives in Punjab. Interestingly, during his time in Pakistan, he wrote a book on guerrilla warfare and subversive literature.
Regarding the incident, it is reported that on Wednesday morning at around 9:30 AM, Sukhbir Singh Badal was present near the gate (clock tower) of Sri Harmandir Sahib. At that moment, a man (Narain) approached and pulled out a pistol to shoot at Sukhbir. However, Sukhbir’s security personnel acted swiftly, raising his hand, causing the shot to fire upwards.
The security personnel quickly covered Sukhbir Singh Badal and apprehended the attacker, handing him over to the police. Upon hearing about the attack, Sukhbir Badal’s wife and Member of Parliament Harsimrat Kaur Badal arrived at Sri Harmandir Sahib.
