THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, July 26: The Supreme Court extended its July 22 interim order on Friday, which stays the directives issued by the BJP-led governments of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh. These directives had required eateries along the Kanwar Yatra routes to display the names of their owners, staff, and other details.

A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and S.V. N Bhatti stated that they would not provide further clarification on the July 22 order, explaining that they had already addressed the necessary points in that order and could not compel anyone to disclose names.

The bench ordered the Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments to submit their responses to the pleas contesting their respective directives.

It permitted the petitioners to submit their responses to the state governments’ replies and scheduled the matter for August 5.

In its response, the Uttar Pradesh government defended its directive arguing that the directive aims to increase transparency, avoid potential confusion and maintain a peaceful yatra.
