New Delhi, Nov. 19: The Jharkhand Pavilion at the 44th India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2025 has emerged as a major attraction this year, highlighting the state’s model of green innovation and sustainable rural development. Led by the Department of Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Jharkhand is drawing national attention for its efforts in building a resilient green economy through Sisal (Agave) cultivation and eco-friendly jute craftsmanship.

A key focus of the pavilion is Sisal, a climate-resilient plant that requires minimal water and thrives even on barren land. Jharkhand is rapidly scaling Sisal cultivation as a means of empowering rural livelihoods. The natural fibre obtained from Sisal is widely used in ropes, mats, bags, and a variety of handcrafted products. Its juice offers promising potential for bio-ethanol production and clean energy, while its medicinal and cosmetic applications are fostering local entrepreneurship. The plant’s ability to grow in low-fertility soil makes it vital for land conservation and climate-adaptive farming.

Sharing the progress of the state’s initiative, Anitesh Kumar, SBO, informed that Sisal plantations have already covered 450 hectares, and the target is to expand by another 100 hectares this financial year. He added that last year’s Sisal yield reached 150 metric tonnes, while 82 metric tonnes has been targeted for the current year.

Alongside Sisal, the pavilion also showcases Jharkhand’s rich jute heritage, featuring eco-friendly home décor products, utility crafts, and handwoven bags made by local artisans. These products reflect the state’s cultural identity while opening new domestic and export opportunities for rural craftsmen.

Through these initiatives, Jharkhand is generating nearly 90,000 labour days annually, strengthening green livelihoods and paving the way for climate-sensitive development. At IITF 2025, the state aims to attract investments, market linkages, and technological partnerships to further expand Sisal-based industries and empower rural communities.
