PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, May 13: Sona Devi University celebrated National Technology Day with an interactive programme at its Vivekananda Auditorium, encouraging students to embrace innovation, research, and emerging technologies as key drivers of India’s future growth.

The event, organised jointly by the School of Engineering & Technology and the School of IT & Computer Science, brought together faculty members and students to discuss the transformative role of science and technology in nation-building.

Chancellor urges students to innovate and solve real-world problems

Addressing the gathering, Sona Devi University Chancellor Prabhakar Singh urged students to see failure as a stepping stone to success and develop technology-driven solutions for real-world challenges.

“Failure should not discourage students. It should motivate them to innovate and work towards meaningful technological solutions,” Singh said.

Highlighting the importance of research and innovation in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, he stressed the growing role of deep-tech startups and technological self-reliance in India’s development.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Singh said India’s future would be shaped by its young researchers and innovators.

He also noted the increasing support from government and private institutions for scientific research and entrepreneurship, adding that cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai are emerging as major centres of innovation and startup activity.

India’s technological achievements highlighted

Dr Nit Nayna, Registrar of the university, highlighted several landmark achievements, including the Chenab Rail Bridge, Chandrayaan-3, and Bharat Biotech’s indigenous Covid-19 vaccine.

“These achievements reflect the growing impact of science, technology, and innovation on India’s progress,” he said.

Speaking on the significance of National Technology Day, Pooja Tiwari, Head of the School of Electrical Engineering, said the day is observed every year to honour scientists and engineers following India’s landmark nuclear achievements in 1998.

She also presented a poem celebrating scientific advancement and innovation.

Students discuss AI, automation, and future technologies

The programme featured academic presentations by faculty members on emerging fields such as quantum computing and AgriTech, highlighting how advanced technologies are transforming industries from computing to agriculture.

Students also shared presentations on Artificial Intelligence, automation, and the vision for Viksit Bharat 2047.

Sharing her views during the event, diploma student Sanjana Munda said, “Technology is powerful, but the human mind is even more powerful.”

The programme began with a ceremonial lamp-lighting and concluded with the national anthem. A vote of thanks was delivered by Monika Singh, Head of the Department of Management.
