PINAKI MAJUMDAR
Jamshedpur, October 6: Sona Devi University has partnered with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to equip students with industry-relevant technological knowledge, practical skills and workplace exposure alongside their regular degree programmes.
The agreement between Sona Devi Memorial Educational Foundation Trust and TCS aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by exposing students to emerging technologies, workplace practices and evolving employment trends.
TCS iON Programme to Be Integrated with Curriculum
Under the partnership, the TCS iON Industry Honour programme will be integrated into the university’s academic curriculum.
Students will be able to pursue specialised learning in industry-relevant domains and emerging technologies while continuing their regular degree courses.
As part of the programme, students will undergo 45 hours of specialised training, supported by digital learning materials, videos, PDFs and structured study resources.
TCS-nominated subject experts will conduct classroom sessions and training programmes on the university campus, giving students direct access to industry professionals and practical insights into their chosen fields.
120 Students to Join Training
A batch of 120 students will be divided into two groups of 60 each to facilitate interaction and engagement during the sessions.
The university said the smaller groups would provide students with greater opportunities to interact with experts, clarify doubts and understand real-world industry requirements.
Focus on Employability and Practical Skills
The university said a degree alone is increasingly insufficient in a competitive employment market, where employers seek technical knowledge, practical understanding, problem-solving abilities, innovative thinking and workplace familiarity.
Assistant Registrar and Placement Coordinator Archana Singh said the partnership would provide students with an important opportunity to strengthen their technical capabilities.
She said academic degrees needed to be complemented by practical skills and industry knowledge and added that the programme would help enhance students’ confidence and employability.
Registrar Nit Nayna said the university was focused on providing students with quality education along with employment-oriented skills.
She said guidance from TCS experts would help students understand real-world industry requirements and strengthen their technical capabilities, describing the collaboration as an important step towards linking education with employment.
‘Objective Is Not Merely to Award Degrees’
Vice-Chancellor Braj Mohan Pat Pingua said stronger coordination between educational institutions and industry was essential in the present era.
“The objective of the university is not merely to award degrees, but to empower students with knowledge, skills and practical experience,” he said.
He added that the partnership would familiarise students with modern technologies and industry practices while preparing them for future technical and employment challenges.
Chancellor and founder Prabhakar Singh described the agreement as an important initiative towards securing a brighter future for students.
“The objective of education today is not merely to earn a degree, but to transform knowledge into skills and skills into employment,” he said.
Singh urged students to make full use of the opportunity, saying the association with TCS would provide modern technical knowledge, expert guidance and practical exposure while opening new avenues for employment.
He said Sona Devi University would continue to pursue collaborations with reputed industries and institutions to prepare students for the rapidly changing technological landscape.
TCS Representatives Attend Agreement Ceremony
TCS representatives Prabhakar Pramanik and Sancho Joseph attended the agreement ceremony.
From the university, Chancellor Prabhakar Singh, Vice-Chancellor Braj Mohan Pat Pingua, Registrar Nit Nayna, Assistant Registrar and Placement Coordinator Archana Singh, and Head of the Engineering Department Pooja Tiwari were present.
Faculty members from the Computer Science and BCA departments, including S.K. Arif and Deeptishikha Naskar, along with teachers from Engineering, Computer Science, BCA and other departments, also attended.
Discussions were held between university faculty members and TCS representatives on strengthening students’ technical capabilities, industry-oriented training and employment-ready skills.
The university said the partnership would create a structured pathway from academic knowledge to practical skills, employment and self-reliance.
