SPIE publishes book authored by IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Professor

Dhanbad, Sept 15: SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, has published a book co-authored by Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Raghuwanshi of the Department of Electronics Engineering, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The book, Introduction to Microwave Photonics, has been written in collaboration with Prof. Mandeep Singh, Dr. Ritesh Kumar, and Prof. Santosh Kumar.

According to IIT (ISM) officials, microwave photonics is an emerging field that combines microwave engineering with photonics, offering transformative applications in high-speed communications, radar, aerospace, defence, biomedical sensing, and advanced signal processing.

Research Contributions of Prof. Raghuwanshi

Prof. Raghuwanshi, the lead author, is a distinguished academician whose research interests cover Numerical Methods of Optical Waveguides, Optical Sensors, Microwave Photonics, Optical Fiber Communication, Plasmonic Waveguides, and Specialty Optical Fibers. Over the past decade, he has made significant contributions to photonics and optical communication.

He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed SCI journal articles, authored six books, and holds seven Indian patents, establishing himself as a leading researcher in his domain.

Educational Background and International Exposure

Prof. Raghuwanshi earned his B.E. in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science, Indore (1999), followed by an M.Tech. in Solid-State Technology from IIT Kharagpur (2002), and a Ph.D. in Fiber Optics from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore (2009).

He also served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the City University of London (2014–2015) in its Instrumentation and Sensor Division, further expanding his international exposure and research collaborations.

Awards and Recognition

His academic journey has been marked by several honors, including the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship for his Ph.D. studies. He was also the recipient of the Best Research Award (Canara Bank Publication Award) at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad for the years 2016–2018.

Through his scholarly work and international recognition, Prof. Raghuwanshi continues to contribute significantly to the advancement of photonics and optical communication.
