Ranchi, Sept. 27: The Supreme Court today refused to enlarge former Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan on bail.

Ranjan, one of the accused in a scam involving the illegal sale and purchase of 4.55 acres of army-owned property and charges of money laundering.

A bench comprising Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice HC Sharma, hearing the arguments, observed that both the Special PMLA Court as well as the Jharkhand High Court have examined his plea. “So, there is no need to interfere by the Apex Court,” the bench observed.

The court also observed that none of the accused in the case, including Amit Agarwal, has been granted bail.

Ranjan has been in judicial custody for the last 16 months.

Senior advocate Siddharth Agarwal and advocate Abhishek Chaudhary represented Ranjan.

Wife Shital Jha reacts on X

The Supreme Court decision, in the meantime, disappointed his wife Shital Jha. She wrote on X: “Justice delayed is justice denied,” but what if justice is completely denied? The God in the black robe blesses even the most sinful among sinners, but lesser mortals are bound to suffer.”
