Ranchi, Sept. 27: The Supreme Court today refused to enlarge former Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan on bail.
Ranjan, one of the accused in a scam involving the illegal sale and purchase of 4.55 acres of army-owned property and charges of money laundering.
A bench comprising Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice HC Sharma, hearing the arguments, observed that both the Special PMLA Court as well as the Jharkhand High Court have examined his plea. “So, there is no need to interfere by the Apex Court,” the bench observed.
The court also observed that none of the accused in the case, including Amit Agarwal, has been granted bail.
Ranjan has been in judicial custody for the last 16 months.
Senior advocate Siddharth Agarwal and advocate Abhishek Chaudhary represented Ranjan.

Ranchi court denies bail to Pooja Singhal
On the other hand, the special court of PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) in Ranchi on Friday pronounced its verdict on the bail plea of suspended IAS officer Pooja Singhal. On September 20, after the completion of arguments on behalf of ED and the defence, the court reserved its decision. The verdict was pronounced today.
Notably, on May 5, 2022, the ED raided 25 locations of Pooja Singhal and her CA Suman Singh. During this, Rs 19.31 crore cash was recovered from Suman Singh’s residence and office. After the raid, the ED arrested Pooja Singhal and her CA Suman Singh. During the interrogation of both, the ED got important information about unaccounted money and investments in other places.
