Jamshedpur, September 28: Thunderstorm and lightning activity is likely to continue at isolated places across Jharkhand over the next few days, with the north-eastern, north-western and central parts of the state expected to remain more vulnerable.
According to the latest weather analysis, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely at isolated places. However, no widespread heavy rainfall warning has been issued for the period.
Trough Over Jharkhand to Influence Weather
Officials at the Ranchi Meteorological Centre said a north-south trough extending from Bihar to the west-central Bay of Bengal is passing across Jharkhand and Odisha and extending up to around 3.1 km above mean sea level.
The trough is expected to continue influencing weather conditions over the region.
Low-Pressure System Moving Away
Meanwhile, a well-marked low-pressure area over northern parts of central Uttar Pradesh persisted over the same region, with its associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
The system is likely to move north-northwestwards across Uttar Pradesh and gradually weaken into a low-pressure area during the next 12 hours.
Though the system is moving away from Jharkhand, its interaction with the prevailing trough could continue to trigger localised convective activity, thunderstorms and lightning over parts of the state.
North-East, North-West and Central Jharkhand on Watch
A Western Disturbance is also prevailing as a trough in the middle and upper tropospheric westerlies, with its axis positioned at around 7.6 km above mean sea level.
The weather office has forecast thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at isolated places over North-East, North-West and Central Jharkhand. Residents have been advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms, particularly in open areas.
No Major Activity on September 29
Weather conditions are likely to remain generally unsettled in parts of the state, with localised cloud development and brief spells of rain possible in association with thunderstorms. The possibility of sudden squalls during the afternoon and evening hours cannot be ruled out.
The forecast indicates no major weather activity on September 29, while isolated thunderstorm-related activity may again develop over parts of Jharkhand around September 30 and October 1, depending on the movement and weakening of the prevailing weather systems.
