New Delhi, Jan 19: Trinamool Congress politician Mahua Moitra on Friday vacated her government-allotted Delhi residence. An eviction notice was sent by the Directorate of Estates (DoE) on Tuesday to Moitra, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha in December of last year.

As per Mahua Moitra’s representative, she completed the evacuation of the bungalow by 10 am on Friday, and her legal representatives formally handed over possession to the Directorate of Estates.

Moitra did not receive any reprieve on Thursday from the Delhi High Court, as it declined to grant a stay on the Directorate of Estates’ notice, instructing her to vacate the government-provided residence.

Justice Girish Kathpalia stated that the court had not been presented with any particular rule addressing the removal of Members of Parliament from government residences once they no longer hold the position of lawmakers.

On December 8 of last year, Moitra was found guilty of “unethical conduct” and expelled from the Lok Sabha for purportedly receiving gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani and giving him access to her username and password for the Parliament website.
