Daltonganj, March 23: Celebrations following Eid and Sarhul turned tragic in Palamu and Latehar districts, where two people lost their lives, and around a dozen others were injured in separate incidents on Saturday.

Bee Attack After Eid Claims Youth’s Life

In the first incident, a 20-year-old youth, Md Arif, died after being attacked by a swarm of bees in Palamu shortly after offering Eid namaz. Arif had gone with friends to Kasi Sote near Mohammadganj after prayers in Haidernagar.

Haidernagar police station officer-in-charge Dhananjay Kumar Gope, quoting the family, said Arif was attacked by a swarm of black bees near the Kasi Sote dam and suffered multiple stings. Mohammadganj police station officer-in-charge Narayan Soren said the stings proved fatal, and the youth could not recover from the shock.

Arif was taken to the Ayushman Arogya Mandir in Haidernagar, where he was declared brought dead. Police registered a UD (unnatural death) case, and the family refused a post-mortem.

Civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar Srivastava said such deaths can occur due to severe allergic reactions. “Anaphylactic reactions are life-threatening and can cause intense shock. Fatality may occur within minutes,” he said.

Sarhul Celebrations Marred by Road Accident

In another incident, an overloaded auto-rickshaw carrying Sarhul revellers collided with a pickup van in the Chandwa police station area of Latehar district on Saturday evening. The auto driver died on the spot, while 11 passengers sustained moderate to severe injuries.

Among the injured were four women and girls, all aged between 4 and 40 years. Four of the injured were referred to a higher medical centre in Ranchi.

The injured were first taken to the Community Health Centre in Chandwa around 7:30 pm. Medical officer Dr Prakash Baraik confirmed the casualties, while in-charge Dr Nilima said the collision was severe.

The accident occurred near the Guri Tarnd railway overbridge.
