Jamshedpur, Dec 26: Two teenagers were drowned while taking bath in the Subernarekha river along Kapali Thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district near Jamshedpur on Tuesday afternoon.

The victims were identified as Adarsh Pandey (14) and Karnbir Singh (15), both residents of Anil Sur Path at Ulyan in Kadma.

A third boy was also drowning, but the fishermen present at the sport rescued him, but they failed to save the lives of the two others.

Group of six were taking bath

According to police, six boys in the age group of 14-15 years had embarked on a picnic trip from their houses from Kadma.

The boys had first gone over to a place called Sapra under Gamharia Thana area close to the Domuhani — the converge point of Kharkai and Subernarekha. After making merry for a while there, the boys went over to Kapali with an intention to take bath in the Kapali Ghaat in the Subernarekha river.

The tragedy struck when three boys had taken a plunge in the river for the bath. Fortunately, one of the victims was saved by the local fishermen.

Bodies sent for postmortem

After the fishermen had recovered the two from the water body, some local residents rushed them to Tata Main Hospital and MGM Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) respectively, where the doctors on emergency duty declared them as brought dead.

Kapali thana OC, Sandeep Kumar said to have seized both the bodies from the Tata Main Hospital and MGM Medical College Hospital respectively for sending them to the medical college mortuary for postmortem.
