Ranchi, September 18: Usha Martin University witnessed a series of academic and co-curricular activities on September 18, with the Department of Forensic Science organising ‘EVIDENTIA – Forensic Day’ and the Department of Business Management conducting Hindi Pakhwada, aimed at promoting practical learning, scientific awareness, communication skills and holistic student development.
EVIDENTIA brings forensic science closer to students
The Department of Forensic Science organised the two-day ‘EVIDENTIA – Forensic Day’ on September 17 and 18 under the theme “Every Detail Speaks.” The programme brought together university and school students, faculty members and participants from educational institutions across Ranchi. More than 200 students and young learners took part in the event.
Students from Bishop School, SS +2 School, Childag, along with representatives from Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University and YBN University, participated in the programme, providing an inter-institutional platform for interaction and knowledge-sharing.
The inaugural ceremony was held on September 17 at the Central Auditorium, Konar Block, in the presence of Pro-Chancellor Prof. Madhulika Kaushik, Officiating Vice-Chancellor Brigadier Sumer Vir Singh, Registrar Dr Shiv Pratap Verma, Dean Academics Prof. B. N. Sinha and Head of the Department of Forensic Science Dr Jagesh Kumar Ranjan, besides university officials, faculty members and students.
The dignitaries highlighted the importance of scientific thinking, keen observation and evidence-based investigation, while emphasising the growing relevance of forensic science.
The first day featured the launch of the departmental magazine, debate and quiz competitions, certificate distribution and a workshop by Vedicon, Bengaluru. The second day included model and poster presentations, a treasure hunt, Nukkad Natak, a dance face-off, food and craft stalls, a live crime-scene activity and a workshop by Forensibus, Kolkata.
Live crime-scene activity offers practical exposure
The live crime-scene activity emerged as a major attraction, giving participants hands-on exposure to observing details, identifying potential evidence and understanding the systematic approach used in forensic investigation. The academic and creative activities also encouraged logical reasoning, teamwork, communication skills and scientific curiosity.
Through EVIDENTIA, the Department of Forensic Science sought to connect classroom learning with practical experience while highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of forensic science, which encompasses biology, chemistry, physics, law, investigation, technology and analytical reasoning.
Hindi Pakhwada highlights importance of Hindi in management education
Meanwhile, the Department of Business Management, Usha Martin University, organised Hindi Pakhwada on September 18 to promote the importance and wider use of Hindi among students and faculty members.
The programme highlighted Hindi not merely as a language of communication but also as an important tool for the overall development of management students. It emphasised that effective communication, interpersonal skills, leadership, teamwork, negotiation and relationship-building are essential competencies in the management profession.
Proficiency in Hindi can help management students communicate effectively with employees, customers, entrepreneurs, government agencies and local communities, particularly in Hindi-speaking regions.
Hindi communication skills linked to management and entrepreneurship
The programme also highlighted the relevance of Hindi in areas such as marketing, human resource management, entrepreneurship, rural management and customer relationship management.
For management students, an understanding of the language used by local consumers and communities can contribute to culturally relevant communication and help build professional relationships.
Various activities organised as part of Hindi Pakhwada provided students with opportunities to strengthen their communication skills, creativity, confidence and presentation abilities in Hindi. The initiative also encouraged students to appreciate linguistic diversity while developing the ability to communicate effectively in academic and professional settings.
The programme concluded with appreciation for the active participation of students and faculty members and reaffirmed the Department of Business Management’s commitment to holistic student development.
The two initiatives together reflected the university’s focus on combining academic knowledge, practical exposure, communication skills, creativity and co-curricular engagement in student development. The Forensic Day concluded with its central message, “Every Detail Speaks.”
