PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, April 18: The city’s legal fraternity is in mourning following the demise of senior advocate Pratap Narayan Gope, widely known as P.N. Gope, who passed away on Saturday morning at a hospital in Baridih.

He was 85.

A respected figure in legal circles, Gope’s career spanned nearly six decades, during which he built a strong reputation for his command over both criminal and civil law.

He also served as a Public Prosecutor for over 13 years, earning recognition for his integrity, sharp legal acumen, and commitment to justice.

Family sources said that his last rites will be conducted at 11 am on Sunday at the Beldih Cemetery near the Circuit House area in Bistupur.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gope was deeply involved in social causes.

He actively contributed to the upliftment of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and economically weaker sections through his association with organisations such as Birsa Seva Dal.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law and grandson. His wife and two sons predeceased him.

Members of the legal community, including office bearers of the Jharkhand Bar Council and the Jamshedpur Bar Association, paid heartfelt tributes, remembering him as a principled lawyer and a compassionate human being whose contributions will leave a lasting impact on the city’s legal and social landscape.
