Voting underway on 57 seats in 7 states and 1 UT in seventh phase of LS polls

New Delhi, June 1: In the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections, voting is going on since 7 am amid tight security in 57 Lok Sabha seats of seven states and one union territory.

The 57 Lok Sabha seats include one seat from the union territory of Chandigarh, all 13 seats from Punjab, four from Himachal Pradesh, 13 from Uttar Pradesh, nine from West Bengal, eight from Bihar, six from Odisha and three from Jharkhand.

Three seats of Jharkhand, namely Dumka, Rajmahal, and Godda are voting today.

Voting is also being held today for the remaining 42 assembly seats of Odisha and by-elections for six assembly seats of Himachal Pradesh.

904 candidates in fray, 10.06 crore eligible voters

A total of 904 candidates are in the fray for 57 Lok Sabha seats in the final phase. These include PM Modi from Varanasi seat, Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Mamta Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee, Lalu Prasad’s daughter Misa Bharti and actress Kangana Ranaut.

The fate of these candidates will be decided by 10.06 crore voters. These include 5.24 crore men, 4.82 crore women and 3,574 transgenders.

Crowd throws EVM and VVPAT into water in West Bengal

At booth number 40 and 41 in Kultai in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, the mob allegedly threw EVM and VVPAT machines into a pond. According to the information, voters were allegedly threatened by TMC supporters. After which the mob got agitated and threw the EVMs into the pond.

Let us together make our democracy more vibrant: PM Modi

In a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the voters to create a new record by voting in large numbers.

“Voting is going to take place today in the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections. I request all the voters of this phase to participate enthusiastically in this great festival of democracy. I am confident that our youth and women voters will come forward in record numbers to cast their votes. Let us together make our democracy more vibrant”, PM Modi wrote on X.

11.31% voting till 9 am

In the seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections, 11.31 per cent voting has took place till 9 am in 57 seats of seven states and union territories. 10.58% of voting has taken place in Bihar, 11.64% in Chandigarh, 14.35% in Himachal Pradesh, 12.15% in Jharkhand, 7.69% in Odisha, 9.64% in Punjab, 12.94% in Uttar Pradesh and 12.63% in West Bengal.
