Daltonganj, September 27: A 24-year-old migrant worker was allegedly lured into a ‘honey trap’ and strangled to death in Palamu, with police arresting seven people, including the victim’s wife, in connection with the murder.
Palamu SP Kapil Chaudhary on Sunday said Aneema Kumari, 20, allegedly masterminded the conspiracy to eliminate her husband, Pankaj Oraon, 24, following a troubled marital relationship. According to the police, Aneema allegedly enlisted the help of Tetri Devi, 32, who in turn brought Rinki Devi, 20, into the plan to lure Pankaj.
Woman allegedly paid ₹10 lakh to arrange murder
According to the SP, Aneema told police during interrogation that her relationship with Pankaj had remained turbulent since their marriage in 2023. She allegedly claimed that Pankaj frequently abused and threatened her.
Police said Aneema approached Tetri Devi to arrange Pankaj’s killing. Tetri allegedly demanded ₹10 lakh for the job. The police said the money was arranged from funds received by Aneema’s family after the NHAI acquired land belonging to her father for the construction of four-laning work on NH-39.
Tetri allegedly then brought Rinki Devi into the conspiracy to lure Pankaj.

Pankaj went missing after alleged meeting with woman
According to police, Rinki allegedly established contact with Pankaj and lured him into what appeared to be a romantic relationship.
Pankaj went missing on September 19 after allegedly responding to a call from Rinki. His father, Brij Oraon, filed a missing-person report the same day.
On September 23, Pankaj’s highly decomposed body was recovered from a forested area at Ekta.
Following the recovery, Brij Oraon lodged an FIR at Lesliganj police station, naming Aneema and her family members.
Police say murder conspiracy was cracked through technical, human intelligence
During the investigation, police allegedly uncovered the conspiracy and arrested seven people.
Those arrested have been identified as Aneema Kumari, Tetri Devi, Rinki Devi, Ram Janam, 63, Dileshwar, 51, Jitender, 35, and Pintu, 28.
Police said Pankaj was strangled to death.
SP Chaudhary said the investigation was conducted using both human intelligence and technical inputs. Lesliganj SDPO Prashant Kumar and his team subsequently arrested the seven accused.
Police also alleged that Aneema attempted to mislead investigators by putting up a display of grief following her husband’s death.
Police seize phones, bank records
Police have seized mobile phones and a bank passbook allegedly showing a balance of around ₹8 lakh, which police said was linked to the payment made to Tetri.
All seven accused were forwarded to judicial custody on Sunday.
