Daltonganj, Oct 23: Ten companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) have arrived at Palamu district.

SP Reeshma Ramesan said, “Six companies of the BSF have come while four companies are of the CRPF.”

Extended stay and operational plans

Reeshma Ramesan said, “The CAPF would be having a longer stay here as polling is on November 13 here.”

“We will make the best use of the CAPF. From de-mining to area domination, from search to confidence-building measure, the CAPF will have ample opportunity to prove its mettle here in this once-upon-a-time worst left-wing extremist hit Palamu which is now a far safer place than what it used to be in the past, nevertheless, there is no room for any laxity or complacency as extremists are definitely down but not out,” said SP Palamu.

There would be flag marches of the CAPF, Reeshma Ramesan said.

Reflections on security improvements

This correspondent who has been covering older CPMF or today’s CAPF since the 1990s when Palamu was in severe grip of the Naxalism, has his experience to find that handling BSF troops used to be a matter of delicate affair as this elite force wants better housing albeit temporarily, faster transportation, good cook for preparing meals and above all this elite force prefers to have its own chart for action which often used to cause more disagreement of this elite force with the district police than coherence to idea and its execution.

However, it’s an eye treat when elite forces like BSF, CRPF, and ITBP conduct flag marches which are just a specimen of discipline and authority. People love to watch when these elite forces march down. Rauber military BSF cap is to be worn to be believed as to how this cotton cap keeps the head cool.

Logistical hurdles for railway operations

The arrival of CAPF puts railway officials also on tenterhooks. The CAPF contingents want their specific trains to be placed on platform number 6 at the Daltonganj railway station and nowhere else.

Here railway officials have their own constraints. Platform number 6 is for the placing of goods trains that bring in food grains, fertilisers, cement etc.

Platform number 6 was much in demand this time too by the CAPF. A railway official declining to be named said there was tremendous pressure on them to place military special trains in platform number 6 at the Daltonganj railway station but it was rejected for various reasons.

Monitoring checkpoints and enforcement actions

SP Reeshma Ramesan very recently made a post-midnight inspection of interstate border checkposts namely at Dangwar, Deori, Pathra etc just to see if the checkposts are functioning properly and efficiently. She said she found it all working well.

Reeshma Ramesan said, “Men on duty have been asked to see law-abiding people don’t face any problem at the checkposts. There must not be any inconvenience to them. It has to be ensured.”

Execution of warrants is in full swing with 165 warrants executed since the day the Model Code of Conduct came into effect, added SP.

Illicit wines worth little over 21L have been seized which included the price of its raw material spirit in a week.

The central jail here was searched jointly by the DC Shashi Ranjan and SP Reeshma Ramesan along with a battery of civil and police officials where no objectionable item was found, said the jail superintendent Bhagirath Karjee.
