Jamshedpur, Jan 19: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Sidhgora police on Monday morning conducted a raid at a dilapidated quarter on Agrico Road No. 3 in the Bhalubasa area, arresting two persons, including a woman, and seizing 100 pouches of brown sugar.
During the operation, police also recovered ₹5,460 in cash and two mobile phones from the spot.
Raid conducted on a tip-off
Police said the raid was carried out following a specific tip-off that the abandoned quarter had been used for the sale and purchase of brown sugar for a long time. Acting swiftly, a Sidhgora police team planned and executed the operation.

As police cordoned off the premises, the two individuals present attempted to flee but were apprehended after a brief chase.

Accused identified
The arrested accused have been identified as Preeti Kumari (27), a resident of Chhayanagar under Sitaramdera police station, and Rahul Sandil (26), a resident of Road No. 3 under Bagunnagar TOP.
During the search, police recovered 100 small pouches of brown sugar packed and ready for sale, along with cash and mobile phones.
Case registered under NDPS Act
According to police sources, both accused are first-time offenders. On the statement of Sub-Inspector Vikas Kumar, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
Police said the accused are being interrogated to trace their backward and forward linkages and to ascertain the extent of the drug network operating in the area.
After completing legal formalities, both accused were produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.
Reiterating its resolve, Sidhgora police said a sustained drive against drug trafficking would continue and warned that anyone involved in the illegal drug trade would be dealt with strictly.
