Ranchi, Aug 22: The Jharkhand State Sentence Review Board, chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, approved the release of 51 life-term prisoners lodged in different jails across the state. The decision was taken at the Board’s 35th meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residential office in Ranchi.

During the session, 103 cases were reviewed in detail, including 37 new proposals and 66 cases that had earlier been rejected in previous board meetings.

After examining each file, the CM gave his consent to release 51 prisoners, considering their age, conduct in jail, family and social background, as well as the recommendations of the courts, district police, jail superintendents, and probation officers.

He also emphasized the need for a comprehensive plan for prisoners suffering from physical or mental health issues, ensuring they receive proper treatment before release.

The Chief Minister instructed that all released prisoners must be linked with government social security schemes to support their reintegration into society.
